Questions about "Trendy"

I have to do a paper on being trendy for my Writing Class. It's a research paper, and I wanted to sort of interview people, and I figured an easy way to interview would be through livejournal. So if any of you have ever worked at somewhere really trendy...I need your opinions. If you do anything really trendy...I need your opinions. I need to know why those things are trendy, why you do things that are trendy...from your point of view. Just tell me why you think certain things are trends, how they catch on and so forth. Leave me comments with your answers.

beach town.

I have four minutes to write an entry. i´m on the beach. i can´t figure out how to use caps. haha. i´m in a completely expatriate town...all europeans who wear speedos and smoke cigarettes. it´s a little disturbing. we went snorkelling today, and i kept having to burp because of the salt water, and it was really annoying. it´s really hard to burp with a snorkel mask on. but on the bright side...i saw alot of awesome fish, and i´m on an absolutely beautiful beach...and we´re going to go look for sea turtles later. the food here is usually good. the water is undrinkable. i have a minute left so i have to get offline. i miss everyone. i´ll update more later. adios.

First Few Days Of The Trip

So I'm on a computer for the first time since I've arrived here. We landed in Cancun on Wednesday, and have been travelling a little bit every day. The first day we went to this town where there were cenotes...these sink holes formed by meteors. Look them up if you want to know more about them. Anyways, the first thing I see in this town is a Dominos...haha...and so far it's been the only chain I've seen. The second day we went to see Mayan ruins, which were amazing...I'll have pictures when I get back. There was this little girl on these crazy steep stairs of one of the ruins, and she almost fell, and if she fell she probably would have died...and even after she almost fell her mother didn't go up to help her, so I had to help her down the stairs. What kind of mother lets her five year old daughter on steep stone stairs (that are half the girls height) alone? What was wrong with her? Her daughter could have died. The stairs were not only steep, but also a long way straight down. Later that day we went on a boat ride to see flamingos and other birds I can't see in the United States...and today we arrived in a beach town, a tourist trap from people from the nearby city of Merida. On the way over I listened to alot of Casualties (on my ipod), and I'm realizing I really like them. I have to go now because I'm going to the beach. I'll update more later. By the way I don't think I can see if I have voicemails on my phone, so if you want to contact me, contact me online.

I hate Jersey.

So I was driving on 787 today and I saw a trooper parked in the bushes, like in Jersey. I mean what happened to parking in the illegal u-turn lanes? Gah it just reminded me of Jersey, and how much Jersey sucks, because it smells, there's so much traffic, and people drive below the speed limit. I guess they'd have to because troopers hide in the bushes...so weird.

Harpo Marx

I went to a lake in Vermont yesterday with my family, for a party with my dad's friend from volleyball. I went on a motorboat, which always clears my head. In the lake is an island which was owned by Harpo Marx, and as the story goes, Harpo used to get naked, paint himself blue, and jump out from behind trees to scare away trespassers. haha.

In other news, I will actually NOT have my cell phone on in Mexico, because it costs me money to recieve calls even if I don't pick up. However, I will occassionally check my voicemails. I'm supposed to be back at 6:15 on August 22, so that's when I'll start picking up my phone...but knowing my luck the plane will be delayed and my phone won't be on until 8 or so.

I'll have my phone on in Mexico, but don't call unless it's important. I'll probably just call you back because it's expensive to use my phone.
Something To Think About

Today I was watching the news, and a feminist was interviewed, saying that feminists concentrated on the "negative body image presented by the media". Okay, both guys and girls are presented in an idealized way by the media, it isn't only girls. Just like all girls are presented as anorexic skinny, guys are presented as steroid-using muscular, neither of which is healthy. Curvy girls think they're too fat and thin guys think they're too skinny. The odd thing about that is that guys generally like curvy girls better than thin girls, and girls generally like thin guys better than bulked up guys.

still don't like The Unseen, but of course The Ducky Boys were good. I bought a shirt, and it has two bad words on it - "bastards" and "Boston". I hate Boston. I'm going to go to the Aquabats tomorrow, and I have to ask Steve for a ride, which I feel bad about, but my mom needs the car because her car will be in the shop. On Friday we're probably going to Six Flags, which I really need. <3 Six Flags. In August I'm going to the Yucatan Peninsula with my family, which I'm looking forward to, but at the same time stressing out about, because I'm going to be away from well...my life...for three weeks. I have to leave Steve and two jobs (Toll Gate and Mercato's...which I'll probably get fired from for leaving for so long) behind for three whole weeks. I know vacation is about escaping that stuff, but when life is going well...well, there's nothing I really want to escape. However, vacations funded by the family aren't an opprotunity I'm about to give up.
